About Royal Archives Online

Royal Archives Online is the main catalogue of records held in the Royal Archives. This catalogue incorporates Georgian Papers Online and the digitised images of the Georgian Papers previously available.

Royal Archives Online is not yet a complete catalogue of all the material held by the Royal Archives. Initially, the focus is on the 'foundation' or 'historical' collections of the Royal Archives, which generally pre-date its formation in 1912. In addition to the Georgian Papers, the catalogue contains information relating to the Stuart, Cumberland and Melbourne Papers, Victorian and Edwardian collections (both official and private), Privy Purse Papers to 1910 and Establishment Books. Royal Archives Online will be updated with catalogues of other collections as and when they are ready for publication. For details of what is currently available, please see the What's in the Catalogue pages.

In addition to images of the Georgian Papers, Royal Archives Online includes digitised images of selected documents from other collections and further images will be published in the catalogue as digitisation progresses.

It should be noted that some material in the Royal Archives may contain terms and opinions that reflect the views of the author, or the period in which the item was written or recorded, which are not considered appropriate today. While the information may not reflect current understanding, it is provided in a historical context.
