TitleThe Duke of Cumberland's accounts for Cumberland Lodge
Date1746-1764
DescriptionThis collection is not homogenous. The earlier boxes contain accounts relating not only to the Duke of Cumberland’s household at the Lodge, but also to major works within the Great Park, including the digging of Virginia Water, the clearance of scrub and the river banks and plantings of trees and shrubs. Later boxes include receipts for the salaries and wages of the Duke’s immediate household, the importation of a lion, buffalo and deer, and work on Ascot racecourse. The papers in the last boxes, are however primarily concerned with the wages and salaries of staff in the Great Park, the maintenance of the various buildings including Cranbourne and Ramslade, and matters agricultural.
