Title
Extract of a letter from Captain William Berkeley to J. Burchett
Date
3 August 1728
Writer
Berkeley, William, Captain, Commander of the HMS Rippon
Addressee
Burchett, Josiah; Secretary of the Admiralty 1694-1742
Description
Captain Berkeley reports to have found on a French sloop four Englishmen who had been taken by a Spanish ship days before. The Englishmen, though, found a way to escape the Spanish ship and to take with them a Spaniard - who is now in Berkeley's hands. The Spanish ship, it seems, came out of Santiago de Cuba where most pirates are now living.
