Title
Letter from Lord Loughborough to George, Prince of Wales on enclosing a memorandum on the debts of the Prince and his brothers and the necessity of a loan for their repayment
Date
20 January 1792
Writer
Loughborough, 1st Baron
Addressee
George, Prince of Wales (1762-1830)
Description
Signed.
Encloses (GEO/MAIN/38674-38675) on the Princes' debts and proposal for a loan. Loughborough states that the discontent likely to be caused by a payment by Parliament 'would for the present be a greater evil than the continuance of the debt', while a loan would give an appearance of 'publick confidence'. The loan proposed is based on £20,000 being paid annually out of the Princes' income in order to raise a sum of £300,000. Refers to George, Prince of Wales's declaration 'to cut off the boundless expences of Newmarket'.
