Title
Draft letter from George, Prince of Wales to the Duke of York
Date
12 October 1803
Writer
George, Prince of Wales (1762-1830)
Addressee
York and Albany, Frederick, Duke of
Description
That crossed letters mean they 'have fallen into a very frivolous altercation upon a Topick, which is quite foreign to the present Purpose.' which is the assertion by the Prince that no previous conditions were imposed on him coming into service as far as he can recollect. Military rank in ordinary times is a matter of little consequence 'except to my own private feelings' but in times of emergency it is essential that he demands a place on the field. His previous letters were not intended to ask the Duke to act as an intermediary 'for meer Rank'.
