TitleLetter from Sir William Ross to his sister Maria, written from Paris, regarding a miniature of the Queen of Belgians and his work in Paris
Date16 October 1850
WriterRoss, William Charles, Sir; Miniature Painter to Queen Victoria
AddresseeRoss, Maria, Miss
DescriptionFurther to correspondence between his sister Adeline and Miss [Marianne] Skerrett, Ross would like the miniature of the Queen of the Belgians to be forwarded to Buckingham Palace, if it has not already been sent. The weather is cold and Ross is thinking of returning home. He has proceeded with his pictures pretty well but as there will be much to do with them when he returns to London, his agreeable visits to the North will be delayed. Ross has received 50 towards a miniature he has just commenced or he would have been in want of money. He will finish at the house of the gentleman in Somersetshire near to his friends the Gibbs, to whom he will also pay a visit. Ross has been working at great disadvantage in Paris with impatient sitters and bad painting rooms - if he goes to Paris again his first care would be to secure a good painting room. He hopes Maria had a good stay in the country and sends his regards to the family. He will let Maria know the exact day of his return and will bring some delicious grapes. He hopes Polly is in high feather and has not forgotten the song 'there's no luck about the house'.
