TitleLetter from Sir William Charles Ross to his sister, Magdalene, regarding commissions of miniatures in Lichfield.
Date6 October 1828
WriterRoss, William Charles, Sir; Miniature painter to Queen Victoria
AddresseeRoss, Magdalene, Miss; miniature painter
DescriptionRoss informs Magdalene that her miniature of the children has been much admired, so much that one lady at Lichfield wishes her to paint three of her children and another, a Miss Scott, will sit for her own, but as she is to be married there will not be more than ten days in which to do it. Ross wishes Magdalene to please herself about going to Lichfield to do them; he will not persuade her for she must wholly consult her own inclination and state of health. If she does decide to go and Father accompanies her, he must put up at an inn and Magdalene should do the same if it is unpleasant to stay at the lady's house to which she is invited
Ross is sorry not to have sent the miniature of the children yet. He has cut out the ivory and shall immediately put it under press, but as it will take some time to dry he cannot promise it in less than three or four days. Ross likes what Magdalene has done to the figures and cannot find any fault. If she will undertake the likenesses at Lichfield, Ross will have no objection to come down and render his assistance. He is glad to hear Father is enjoying himself and will be glad to hear from him; he also requests a very long letter from Magdalene.
