TitleLetter from Sarah Haigh to Magdalene Ross enclosing a book by Mary Jane Graham
Date[?1850s]
WriterHaigh, Sarah, Miss
AddresseeRoss, Magdalene, Miss; miniature painter
DescriptionSarah Haigh sends Magdalene Ross a book which is great favourite of hers. She would have also sent with the life of Miss Graham one of her works called 'The Test of Truths' but she could not get it in Sheffield. She recommends it however and also Miss Graham's 'The Freeness of God's Justifying and Electing Grace'; both of these together are not as large as the memoirs. Miss Haigh asks Miss Ross to write and tell her if she likes the book.
The drawing which Mr Ross was so kind to get cost 6s 6d which is enclosed. Miss Haigh has not heard anything from William about Papa's study table which she asked him to send her, 'however it is of little consequence for after all what have we to care for but eternity?'. Miss Haigh cannot tell what she has endured for the last two months. The mental suffering which she has had since receiving Miss Ross's letter has prevented her answering. 'Everyday has revealed to me more and more of the depth of my iniquity and yet I am as proud and rebellious as ever. I should sink under it if I did not know that God is Almighty'.
Miss Haigh closes by recommending the life of Sir Henry Martyn.
