Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales
Date
6 June 1875
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910)
Description
Queen Victoria urges the Prince of Wales to do everything he can to stop gambling and not to bet himself 'after such fearful examples as George Russell and Major Hon. Walter Harbord'. The Queen denies a story of the Prince having won £2000 on the Derby in the same paper as first appeared the 'infamous story' of his debts, and hopes she is justified in her denial. The Queen describes the behaviour of Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, as regards stalking parties and his settling at Birkhall without asking her, as 'most extraordinary'. The Queen is also distressed that Princess Victoria of Wales is so ill again.
