Description | Queen Victoria notes that she is 'quite touched' at the Prince of Wales writing to her 'so often' and by his telegram on 'the sad 14th'. Regarding Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen comments on 'the dreadful difficulties' he has got into '& of his having to go to sea for 3 years & break up his Establishment!!'. On the cause of the trouble, the Queen thinks that 'It will create a very bad effect when it is known, & do you all harm'. She consents 'to give a sort of moral security' and states her anxiety not to let her capital suffer, for the sake of the younger members of the family. The Queen refers to the Duchess of Edinburgh's plans, and remarks that Prince Leopold is 'better disposed'. |
