26 February 1869
Writer
Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910)

Description
The Prince continues his account of his voyage up the Nile accompanied by Sir Samuel Baker. He is to undertake excavations at Thebes [Luxor, Egypt], and mentions his failure to shoot a crocodile. He refers to Oswald Brierly advising the Princess of Wales on her drawing: 'He is really a most kind & amiable man - very industrious in his drawings, & very ... gentlemanlike'. The Prince emphasises the desirability of Queen Victoria's being seen more in London, and the danger of over-severity in the treatment of his children. He also gives his views on the Irish Disestablishment Bill.
