TitleLetter from Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, to Queen Victoria
Date17 October 1869
WriterAlbert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910)
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionThe Prince reports on his visit to Chester and his opening of the new Town Hall. He notes that his children are all getting on very well with Miss Brown, their Governess, who is 'really a very nice person'. The Prince highly recommends Maurice Holzmann for the position of Royal Librarian at Windsor Castle; Martin Tupper wishes to have his name put forward, but 'I should hardly think that he would be a suitable person for the post'. The Prince comments on Sir Sydney Dacres' view of the failure of the Duke of Edinburgh to send in reports during his command of HMS Galatea. He also reports that Dr William H. Russell has written a book on the Prince's tour in Egypt, which is dedicated to the Princess of Wales, and that the Princess wishes to present a copy to the Queen.
