Title
Letter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Dr. Ernst Becker casting doubt on Passavant's attribution of two pictures to Raphael.
Date
25 March 1857
Writer
Eastlake, Charles, Sir; Director of the National Gallery
Addressee
Becker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
Description
Eastlake thanks Becker for information about some engravings; he thinks the two side pictures are by Perugino rather than Raphael, as attributed by Passavant, who dates the picture to 1503. Waagen dates the drawing at Oxford to1501, but if Raphael assisted in the picture Eastlake thinks it cannot pre-date 1503.
