Date1 August 1860
WriterRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
AddresseeFountaine, Andrew
DescriptionRuland explains the Prince Consort's aim of collecting faithful reproductions of all Raphael's pictures and studies, so as to be able to trace the evolution of each of his pictures, of which there are not many engravings but which can now be photographed. He has learned that Mr Fountaine owns two cartoons for the tapestries representing Raphael's 'Massacre of the Innocents', and he asks whether they may be photographed for the Prince's collection.
