TitleLetter from William Russell to Charles Ruland sending a drawing, formerly wrongly attributed to Raphael, that he thinks the Prince Consort may be interested to see.
Date7 February 1861
WriterRussell, William; art collector, Accountant General of the Court of Chancery
AddresseeRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionRussell writes that he is sending an early drawing of the Battle of Constantine which he thinks may be of interest to the Prince Consort. It once belonged to Consul Udney and was mistakenly attributed to Raphael. He comments that it is not related to the engraving by J.B. Cavalleriis. Richardson recorded that Raphael made a superb drawing of the same subject but Russell cannot recall where it is now, if it exists.
