TitleLetter from Joseph Cundall to Charles Ruland concerning Andrew Fountaine's Raphael drawings, photographed at Narford Hall, and drawings at the Foundling Hospital and Oxford.
Date1 October 1861
WriterCundall, Joseph; photographer
AddresseeRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionCundall writes that he has sent photographs of 6 drawings by Raphael belonging to Andrew Fountaine, brought to Narford Hall in 1698 by Fountaine's ancestor Sir Andrew Fountaine. Two small cartoons for 'The Massacre of the Innocents', in dark bistre, were very difficult to photograph but Cundall thinks he has achieved the best possible result. He states that there is a red chalk drawing at the Foundling Hospital after the cartoon there; although it is badly done, it might be of some use. He reports that he has not yet heard from Lord Dudley; and he encloses a copy of the list of drawings he was instructed to photograph at Oxford (see VIC/ADDA10/85/201).
