Date24 March 1859
WriterBaring, Francis, Sir
AddresseeGrey, Charles, Maj-Gen. Hon.; Private Secretary to the Prince Consort
DescriptionIn response to a letter from Grey, Baring writes that his father's picture collection was sold at his death, but that his brother Thomas bought two by Raphael, 'The Holy Family' and a head. He adds that another Holy Family by Raphael was sold earlier by his father to the King of Bavaria and is now in Munich. He regrets that he is unable to meet the Prince Consort's wishes [for photographs of his late father's Raphael paintings].
For Thomas Baring's letter, which contradicts this version of the provenance of his Raphael pictures, see VIC/ADDA10/85/54.
