Title
Copy letter from William Russell to Dr. Ernst Becker concerning three Raphael drawings in the care of Mr Colnaghi, and another which he wishes to show to Becker.
Date
14 November 1859
Writer
Russell, William
Addressee
Becker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
Description
Russell reports that Mr Colnaghi has three Raphael drawings [from Russell's collection] ready to be photographed 'when the London fogs will permit'. One is a fragment of the cartoon for the 'Holy Family' at Naples; another is a study for the Procession of the Pope in the Heliodorus, comparable but superior in his opinion to that in the Louvre; both of these may be difficult to photograph because of their yellow tone.
The third is a pen drawing of Lucretia. He will send them for the Prince Consort to see. He wants Becker's opinion on another drawing in pen & sepia or bistre, of a battle scene; Bartsch has a fine facsimile of it. He offers to bring it to show Becker.
