TitleLetter from Reverend Robert Collyer, Librarian at Holkham Hall, to Dr. Ernst Becker regarding the identification of drawings by Raphael at Holkham.
Date25 November 1859
WriterCollyer, Robert, Revd; Librarian
AddresseeBecker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionCollyer writes that there is a drawing at Holkham entitled 'Joseph and his Brethren', but that this has always been ascribed to Caravaggio. There is a small drawing by Raphael which has always been called 'Our Saviour and his disciples'; Passavant and Waagen may have confused the two, or the latter drawing may in fact be of Joseph and his brethren. Collyer promises to examine it and report back to Becker.
Collyer first mentions Caravaggio as the author of the drawing but later in the letter names Correggio, one or the other clearly a mistake.
