Date16 November 1858
WriterBecker, Ernest, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
AddresseeBuchanan, Andrew; British Envoy to Madrid 1858-1860
DescriptionBecker acknowledges receipt of the photographs of the Duke of Alba's picture and sends the Prince's thanks to Buchanan and the Duke. He is glad that the Marquis de St Ysabel has given permission (for the photographing of the Raphaels in the Royal Museum).
Becker states that the Prince wishes to acquire the plates of the photographs taken, in order to obtain permanent impressions of a tone which he likes. If the plate of the Alba photograph belongs to the photographer, the Prince would like to buy it, but if it belongs to the Duke he would not want to ask for it.
