TitleLetter from Charles Clifford to Charles Ruland sending photographs he has taken of two Raphael drawings in the possession of the former Director of the Royal Museum (the Prado).
Date11 December 1859
WriterClifford, Charles; photographer
AddresseeRuland, Charles; German Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionClifford reports that he is sending to Ruland the negatives and prints of the photographs he has taken of the drawings mentioned in Ruland's letter (see VIC/ADDA10/85/319). He adds that their owner, SeƱor Madrazo, has three or four other drawings by Raphael including a rough crayon sketch of a detail of the 'Pasmo de Sicilia' (fall on the road to Calvary) and a bold drawing of a large group of women representing Pharaoh's daughter discovering Moses. As a friend of his, he is sure Madrazo would allow him to photograph these for the Prince. He also encloses a photograph he took of the 'Virgen de la Faja' (Virgin of the girdle) belonging to the Duc de Montpensier in Seville. It is very dark and thickly varnished. He can send the negative if the Prince wishes.
