Description | Ruland states that he has received the photographs which Bingham sent to his predecessor Dr. Becker (see VIC/ADDA10/85/234). Most seem to be from the Louvre, but Ruland has been unable to identify some. He lists these, as numbered on the envelopes: 11. Untitled drawing 18. Arabesques 22. Christ at Emmaus 23. Head of a woman 27. Two prophets & an angel 28. Head of a woman 31. Unknown subject - and asks who they belong to and whether all are ascribed to Raphael, and whether No. 30, Faith & Charity, represents the whole drawing. He asks for information about three drawings in the Louvre which the Prince wished to have photographed but which Bingham has not sent: 1. Study on grey paper for La Madonna della Gatta at Venice; 2. Head of a man looking upwards, on the reverse of another showing a saint seated; 3. The judgment of Paris. He asks whether there is a catalogue of the drawings at the Louvre; if so, he wishes Bingham to send him a copy. Ruland refers to a drawing belonging to Mr Poynter of which Bingham has sent a photograph; he understands that Poynter has another Raphael drawing, 'La Vierge au Donataire', and the Prince would like this photographed too. He presumes Becker gave Bingham a list of drawings belonging to Messrs Reiset, Gatteaux, Canonge, Piscatore and others which the Prince would like photographed; if not, Ruland will send it to him. He hopes Bingham has recovered, and looks forward to receiving photographs of the 54 drawings in the Wicar collection at Lille. |
