TitleLetter from the Tuscan chargé d'affaires in Paris to General [Grey] sending photographs made for the Prince Consort by Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany.
Date16 June 1858
WriterTanay de Nerly, Marquis; Tuscan chargé d'affaires in France
AddresseeGrey, Charles, Maj-Gen. Hon.; Private Secretary to the Prince Consort
DescriptionThe Marquis de Tanay writes from Paris sending, via Lord Cowley, a box containing the photographs which the Hereditary Prince of Tuscany (Archduke Ferdinand) has made for the Prince Consort. He asks Grey to tell the Prince that Archduke Ferdinand will be delighted to accept the album offered him by the Prince, which can be sent via Lord Cowley. He regrets that poor health and the pressure of business have prevented him from bringing the photographs himself.
It is assumed that the addressee is the Prince's Private Secretary, General Grey, although the letter is addressed only to 'Monsieur le Général'. It is not clear whether the Archduke took the photographs himself or had them taken by someone else.
