TitleLetter from Benjamin Delessert to Dr. Ernst Becker concerning the Duc de Luynes's Raphael project and recommending a former print dealer in Paris who could assist in the search for engravings after Raphael.
Date18 November 1856
WriterDelessert, Benjamin
AddresseeBecker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to Prince Albert
DescriptionDelessert apologizes for his delay in replying to Becker's letter; he still does not have all the information requested. He reports that the Duc de Luynes started a project several years ago to have engravings made of the Raphael drawings left to the city of Lille by Monsieur Vicar [Wicar], but no engravings have yet been published. Luynes is away from Paris but Delessert will send a fuller reply when he returns.
He recommends Monsieur Defer, a retired print dealer, as someone who could send Becker catalogues of all sales in which engravings after Raphael appeared. He is known to Colnaghi and all the London dealers and is very knowledgeable and trustworthy.
