| Description | Lake Price reminds Dr. Becker that Prince Doria declined to have his pictures photographed. He did obtain a copy of the Fornarina at Palazzo Barberini, but although he spent two days on [the portraits of] Cesare and Cardinal Borgia, the negatives show only the frames. He was not allowed to have the Raphael paintings moved into the open air, on the grounds that the Prince [Borghese] had sent for one of the best French photographers, but despite the 'roasting' the paintings had suffered outdoors, the result was nil.
Lake Price says his negatives of exteriors are on their way from Italy after a long delay and he expects them imminently.
He is glad that the lithograph copies of his portrait of Prince Alfred seem to be well received. He thinks a portrait of Princess Alice would be very popular, and offers to submit sketches of a suitable arrangement to the Queen; he thinks a very successful lithograph could be made, the same size as the portraits of the Prince of Wales and Prince Alfred, and published next year. |
