| Description | Culemann acknowledges receipt of Becker's letter of 28 December (see VIC/ADDA10/85/437), and states that he immediately sought permission from Hermann Kestner to have his Raphael drawing photographed for the Prince Consort, under Culemann's supervision. It forms part of the collection which Herr Kestner inherited from his uncle, who was Secretary of Legation in Rome, and he was glad to agree to Culemann's request, having heard from his uncle how much the Prince appreciated and enjoyed everything of beauty when he visited Rome.
Culemann states that he will do his best to get a good photograph taken, but although there are many photographers in Hanover most of them produce only mediocre work, so that if necessary, Culemann will just obtain as clear a negative as possible and send it to Becker to have prints made. He will make use of the first bright day available.
He concludes by expressing hopes that the political storm clouds over Europe will soon be dispersed by the sunrays of peace, which England and Germany both need so badly. |
