| Description | Ruland writes from Windsor to say that rain and wind have made it impossible to take photographs. Bambridge has been trying since this morning without success, and at one point he and his table and camera were sent flying. He will try again tomorrow, but Ruland doubts that he will finish by midday as the weather is growing worse by the minute. Moreover he understands from Sir Charles Phipps that tomorrow's courier only goes to Berlin and then puts things in the post there; but he is awaiting further news on this.
Ruland adds a postscript saying that he has written to Kuhlmann [presumably Culemann], and that in Montpelier two of the drawings described by Passavant are unknown, at least not known as works of Raphael, although there are other drawings which are attributed to him.
This letter presumably refers to the Raphael drawings sent over from Dresden by Ludwig Gruner, with instructions to have them photographed and returned as soon as possible (see Gruner's letters VIC/ADDA10/85/431, VIC/ADDA10/85/433 and VIC/ADDA10/85/438). |
