Title
Letter from Count Riesch to the Prince Consort stating that he has gladly given permission for his mother's Raphael drawing of the 'Massacre of the Innocents' to be photographed for the Prince's collection.
Date
23 January 1860
Writer
Riesch, Johann, Count
Addressee
Albert, Prince Consort
Description
Count Riesch writes that the Prince will already have heard via Ludwig Gruner that his wish for a photograph of the Raphael drawing of the 'Massacre of the Innocents' at Bethlehem, which belongs to the Count's mother, is to be fulfilled. She has waived the condition which she originally placed on this for her son's sake, and Count Riesch now wishes to assure the Prince that he himself had always been willing to grant his request and is now delighted to be able to show his goodwill. He describes the drawing as Raphael's 'first and original design' for the picture.
The letter is endorsed with a note by a secretary recording that it conveyed Count Riesch's permission for the drawing to be sent to London to be photographed (although this is not specifically mentioned in the letter), and a note by Becker that the Prince was to answer the letter.
