TitleCopy letter from Charles Ruland to Gustav Waagen acknowledging receipt of the retouched photograph.
Date15 February 1860
WriterRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
AddresseeWaagen, Gustav, Professor; Director of the Berlin Picture Gallery
DescriptionRuland thanks Waagen for his letter to Dr. Becker (VIC/ADDA10/85/449), and explains that he has succeeded Becker, who left the court at the beginning of the year. He has shown the retouched photograph to the Prince Consort, who is perfectly satisfied with it; it is to be hoped that it will last better than the earlier version, of which only the retouched areas remain visible, all the rest having faded away. As for payment, Ruland has written to Ernst von Stockmar, who will give Waagen the money to pay the artist involved. On behalf of the Prince Consort, Ruland thanks Waagen for the trouble he has taken.
