TitleLetter from J.D. Passavant to Charles Ruland asking for news of the photographs of the Raphael Cartoons and announcing that photographs have now been taken of the [Raphael] paintings and drawings in the Städel'sches Insitut
Date16 May 1860
WriterPassavant, Johann David; Curator of the Städel'sches Institut, Frankfurt; biographer of Raphael
AddresseeRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionPassavant begins by asking whether Ruland was aware that his predecessor, Dr. Becker, had ordered from the Department of Science and Art various photographs of the Raphael Cartoons at Hampton Court, for the Städel'sches Institut and other connoisseurs in Frankfurt, and that some of the photographs had indeed been sent in November 1859. They were still waiting for the rest, however; nor had they received an invoice for the photographs they had received. There had been no further news, and Passavant did not know Dr. Becker's present whereabouts. He would therefore be glad if Ruland could find out what had happened.
He goes on to inform Ruland that the weather has been propitious enough for Herr Hoff to take the four photographs of paintings and drawings in the Institute's collection for the Prince Consort, and that he will send them to Ruland shortly.
