TitleLetter from Artaria & Co. to Charles Ruland announcing that they have dispatched the glass plate negatives of Raphael drawings in the collection of Archduke Albrecht but have been unable to find the drawing reputedly in Prince Esterhazy's collection
Date17 July 1860
WriterArtaria & Co.; Art publishers in Vienna
AddresseeRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionThe letter states that Artaria are pleased to hear from Ruland's letter of 1 June of the safe arrival and approval of the photographs they have sent. They can now announce that the glass plates of the Raphael drawings in the Archducal collection are at last ready, and they have this day posted them to Ruland. They enclose their invoice (see VIC/ADDA10/85/465).
They regret to say, however, that the drawing described in Passavant Volume III, p. 204, no. 580 as belonging to Prince Esterhazy, has not been found in the Prince's collection and they suggest that this was a mistake by Passavant. If they do find out anything more about it they will be glad to help fill this gap, and indeed to be of service again.
