DescriptionCarpenter writes to tell Ruland that the portrait of Giovanni Francesco (Gianfrancesco) Penni attributed to Raphael was bought at the King of Holland's sale for the collection at Weimar.
He adds that he has been ill and is convalescing in Sussex, from where this letter is written.
A sale of pictures belonging to King William II of the Netherlands (d. 1849) took place in August 1850.
