| Description | Joseph Albert writes that because of the age of the original oil painting the dark areas are very much dulled. Permission was refused to paint it over with water or a harmless varnish before the photograph was taken, so apart from the light areas of flesh very little detail, and in the dark areas none at all, came out in the unretouched photograph which Albert encloses. In order, however, to produce a faithful reproduction of what photography could not show, the senior painter in Albert's studio has retouched a photograph exactly in accordance with the original, and this also is enclosed.
