TitleLetter from W. Tinker to Charles Ruland announcing that he has been given permission to photograph the Raphael drawings in the Teyler Museum in the open air.
Date3 January 1861
WriterTinker, W.; photographer in Haarlem
AddresseeRuland, Charles; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionTinker regrets that he has been unable to photograph the Raphael drawings in the Teyler Museum because the directors forbade him to take them out of the museum, where the lighting was too poor and the drawings too yellowed with age to allow them to be photographed there, especially as there was hardly a fine day throughout the previous summer. But having told the directors that he would have to give up the project if he could not take the drawings into a better light, he has now been given permission to photograph them in the open air. He will therefore begin as soon as the weather is milder as it is well below freezing at the moment.
