| Description | Devaux writes that the Raphael cartoon belongs to Comte Charles d'Oultremont de Presle, who has given his consent to its being photographed, and is willing for the Prince Consort to send a photographer to the Château de Presle for this purpose. Devaux goes on to explain that the Count did not inherit the picture from his father but that it comes from his wife's family. His father's collection went to his elder brother, and this is the only picture that Comte Charles owns, so that he would be glad to sell it to the Prince if he wished to acquire it.
The subject of the cartoon is not mentioned, but this is not the Raphael painting mentioned in Van de Weyer's letter to the Prince Consort (see VIC/ADDA10/85/515 & VIC/ADDA10/85/517), as is clear from the photographer Edmond Fierlants' letter to Ruland concerning both pictures (see VIC/ADDA10/85/518). |
