TitleLetter from Dr. Waagen to Dr. Ernst Becker conveying Herr Harzen's request that his Raphael drawing be photographed before his return from London to Hamburg.
Date22 June 1857
WriterWaagen, Gustav, Dr.
AddresseeBecker, Ernest, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionWaagen writes that Harzen has asked him to arrange for his Raphael drawing to be photographed while he is still in London; he brought it with him (from Hamburg) as a favour to the Prince Consort, and returning it to him will avoid the risk of sending it back separately. Waagen expects Becker will be able to see to this.
He goes on to ask Becker to express his regrets to the Prince Consort that he cannot attend the ball to which the Queen has invited him on 24 June. He is going to Oxford that day to receive an honorary doctorate. He had initially declined to go because of the ball, but changed his mind on hearing that the doctorate could only be awarded in person. He hopes to be able to see the Prince Consort after the latter's return from Manchester.
