TitleLetter from Hon. Edward Erskine to Dr. Ernst Becker announcing the completion of the photography of the Raphael and other works in Stockholm and the imminent dispatch of the prints and plates to England
Date23 October 1859
WriterErskine, Edward, Hon.; British Chargé d'Affaires in Sweden 1859
AddresseeBecker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionErskine reports that Hansen has finished photographing the drawings for the Prince Consort, and Erskine will send a complete set of prints to London shortly; Hansen has added 3 photographs of the King of Sweden which he wishes to present to the Prince, and one of the Lely portrait of Cromwell (see VIC/ADDA10/85/533), for which there is no charge. Erskine fears that the photographs are not of the highest quality, but Hansen has done his best considering that the originals are dark and spotted.
The plates have been packed according to Becker's instructions and will be brought to England by Sir Arthur Magenis's former butler Mr Groves; Erskine asks Becker to procure an order to the Custom House to allow the 3 cases to pass unexamined. He encloses Hansen's account (see VIC/ADDA10/85/539).
Finally he asks whether a letter or gift could be sent to Mr Grubb, the elderly and infirm Director of the Royal Museum, to thank him for the considerable effort he has had to make to enable the photography to be carried out in Hansen's studio.
