TitleLetter from Ludwig Gruner to Dr. Ernst Becker concerning a collection of drawings of vases, urns, candelabra etc [by Raphael] which has been sent for the Prince Consort's inspection.
Date27 August 1857
WriterGruner, Ludwig; Director of the Königliches Kupferstichkabinett, Dresden
AddresseeBecker, Ernest, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionGruner thanks Becker for the photographs he has sent, and hopes that in due course the frescoes in Manchester can be photographed for him. With regard to the 50 drawings of vases, urns, candelabra etc. [which Gruner has presumably sent], if the Prince wishes to keep them, Gruner asks Becker to arrange for the payment of 10 guineas for them to be made to the Union Bank in Argyll Place, London.
He sends three more drawings, and cites the price per item he paid in case the Prince wishes to repay the exact sum Gruner paid for the collection. But if the Prince does not want the drawings, Gruner asks him to send them back to Mr Müller in Sussex Street, from whom they came. Gruner goes on to say that Rudolph Weigel has had two drawings photographed of which he, Gruner, doubts the authenticity, but as they have already been published as part of Weigel''s collection, he foresees a dispute.
He concludes by reporting that the work on the Dresden Raphael drawings for the Prince is under way.
