| Description | (369) Härtel writes, further to his previous letter (see VIC/ADDA10/85/368), to say that he has just been in Dresden where he was told that photographs of the Louvre's Raphael drawings can be obtained from the photographer himself [Charles Thurston Thompson]; he also saw, in the Dresden Kupferstich Cabinet (Prints and Drawings Collection), photographs of the complete series of Raphael drawings at Windsor, numbering 38, so he now knows that not all were exhibited at Manchester; thirdly, he saw photographs of another series of Raphael drawings which are at the British Museum and which he learnt are on sale in the Museum itself for between 5s. and 7s.6d. according to size. He asks Chrysander to acquire these for him too.
He adds that he would prefer any photographs Chrysander obtains to be unmounted, as this makes packing and transport easier. Finally he stresses that he does not wish to impose any burden on Chrysander or Dr. Becker.
(370) At the end of Härtel's letter Dr. Chrysander adds a note to Dr. Becker saying he is sending him this letter, as he did the earlier one, and will do nothing about obtaining the photographs, as Becker has so kindly said he would deal with the matter; as an ignorant dilettante he can now withdraw and leave it to the experts. |
