TitleLetter from Piloty & Loehle of Munich to Dr. Ernst Becker regarding a series of prints subscribed to by the Prince Consort, and Raphael drawings in the Bavarian royal collection of which he has requested photographs.
Date2 May 1859
WriterPiloty & Loehle; art publishers to the King of Bavaria
AddresseeBecker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
DescriptionIn response to a letter from Dr. Becker, Piloty & Loehle state that they attach a list (on the second page of the letter), with prices marked, of the works ready for dispatch to the Prince Consort, including the royal 'Schönheiten-Sammlung' (Collection of Beauties), and ask whether the latter was required in a morocco binding, which they could supply more cheaply than could be done in England, or in a plain cover. They will supply one of the first 'avant la lettre' prints of the Cinderella engraving by Moritz von Schwind for the Prince's collection.
As for the original drawings reportedly in the royal art collection in Munich, they ask for more detailed information about which these are, as they are unaware of them. If there are indeed original Raphael drawings in the King's Kupferstich-Cabinet, they can have immediate access to photograph them and will arrange this without the Prince or Becker having to make any further arrangements with the Munich authorities. If they can be identified, Piloty & Loehle ask whether several copies of each drawing are required.
