| Description | Gruner writes that he has received the photograph of the Alexander and Roxana drawing sent via Coburg, and thanks the Prince Consort for it on behalf of Herr W. von Goethe. He informs Becker that about three weeks ago he sent a photograph of the original drawing of the 'Massacre of the Innocents' owned by Queen Maria, enclosed with other things, to Mr Robinson, the Keeper of the South Kensington Museum, with a note saying that Dr. Becker would send for it.
He would have told Becker this earlier, but had hoped to be able to get a better photograph taken. The weather has been so persistently bad, however, that this was not possible, although Gruner still intends to have another made as soon as a few fine days come along. Count Riesch, who owns the other drawing of the same subject, is still away from Dresden. Gruner adds a postscript asking whether it would be possible for another copy of the photograph of the St Michael in Milan, which he sent previously, to be provided for him; he cannot get one from Milan because the negative has been spoilt and the drawing has changed hands. |
