TitleCopy letter from Dr. Ernst Becker to Ludwig Gruner responding to Count Riesch's request for a bust of the Prince Consort in return for allowing his Raphael drawing to be photographed for the Prince.
Date15 December 1859
WriterBecker, Ernst, Dr.; Librarian to the Prince Consort
AddresseeGruner, Ludwig; Director of the Königliches Kupferstich-Kabinett, Dresden
DescriptionFollowing Gruner's letter of 8 December (see VIC/ADDA10/85/423) conveying Count Riesch's proposal that in compensation for the loss of value that his Raphael drawing will suffer as a result of being photographed, the Prince Consort should donate a marble bust to his gallery,
Dr. Becker gives the Prince Consort's response: if HRH had thought it possible that photographing the drawing would devalue it, as a gentleman he would never have made his request. Since Count Riesch is of this opinion, however, HRH asks that his wish should be regarded as never having been expressed.
