Title
Letter from Lord Melbourne to Queen Victoria
Date
22 November 1838
Writer
Melbourne, 2nd Viscount
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Should Colborne remain in Canada, or should another Assistant Governor be sent out? Should Lord Normanby go? Melbourne does not feel the position so serious as some; Lord Durham exaggerates the danger in Canada to give greater éclat to his own departure. The King of Portugal's letters returned by Melbourne to Queen Victoria. ('Very rough and ill-tempered' is Melbourne's comment). William Philip, 2nd Earl of Sefton, dead.
