Description
Melbourne states fact which Lord John Russell wished to state. After Cabinet meeting on West Indian Affairs, Viscount Howick requested to speak to Russell. Howick complained to Russell that he is alone in his attitude towards West Indian affairs (as with Corn Laws) and that he had doubts whether he ought to remain in Cabinet. Russell tried to dissuade Howick, since, if he resigned, he (Russell) could scarcely remain. Melbourne thinks Russell is mistaken in this.
