TitleLetter from Lord Melbourne to Queen Victoria
Date21 September 1840
WriterMelbourne, 2nd Viscount
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionLetter brought, by Prince [?Massurio], from Clifford, containing testimony that the Prince is of distinction. Melbourne tells the Prince it is contrary to custom for Queen Victoria to receive foreigners, even of greatest distinction. The Prince suggested that Prince Albert would see him, as they knew each other. Melbourne, in commenting on introductory letters for the foreign prince, says we are not in the habit of treating foreigners in England with too much civility.
