Description
Lord Derby on less hopeful outlook for Government (Address to the Throne). 'Situation very critical'. Lord Derby's (E.G., 14th Earl of Derby) recommendations for honours, in the event of the resignation of the Government. His reasons for making them before defeat. His 'utmost ambition' for himself. Archibald William Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton (Lord Lieutenant of Ireland) recommended for an English earldom. Lord Malmesbury (Secretary, Foreign Office) and Sir J. Pakington (First Lord of the Admiralty) recommended for the Grand Cross (G.C.B.). Precedents cited. Sir William Jolliffe (Secretary to the Treasury) recommended for the Privy Council.
