Description
Lord Palmerston on Lord Willoughby's views as to the position of the House of Lords, before being opened by Queen Victoria, with regard to Lady Gardner's (Baroness Julia Sarah Hayfield Gardner) exclusion or non-exclusion. Improbability of her being received at a Drawing Room. The difference between the latter and Her Majesty's opening a session. Steps taken to dissuade her from attending. Action recommended in the event of her persistence. Possible desirability of a regulation to exclude peeresses not presented at Court from the House of Lords. Lady Cardigan's (Adeline, Countess of Cardigan) attendance cited. Lord Palmerston's acceptance of emendations in the Speech from the Throne regarding the situation in Italy.
