Lord John Russell explained to Cabinet the present position with regard to Naples, the present position regarding Turkey (French disagreement with Russia) and the present position with regard to Switzerland (Cabinet view of her wish for a Conference. French attitude). Mr S. Herbert, Sir C. Wood and Lord Palmerston requested by Cabinet to arrange a scheme for their sons to receive a limited number of first commissions in the Indian Army, without purchase. Cabinet decision as to the method of providing funds for repairs to Maynooth College, Ireland.
