Description
Lord Palmerston's view of the effect of W.E. Gladstone's promotion to the House of Lords, as compared with that of Lord John Russell. His repeated threats of resignation in the previous session. Lord Palmerston's reference to Edward George, 14th Earl of Derby's and Mr Disraeli's offer of conservative support for any provisional administration formed by him, in the event of the break-up of the Government. Lord Palmerston on 'the approaching virtually accomplished dissolution ... of the great Northern Confederation' (United States of America). Mr H.S. Parkes submitted for a Companionship (C.B.) for his good conduct in China.
