Description
Albert, Prince Consort's reply to Lord Palmerston (No. 31) on Budget proposals; his doubts as to the advisability of the course proposed and as to the accuracy of the calculations. The Prince Consort's view on Government policy in South Africa; his regret at the policy of establishing free republics behind the Cape, and thus cutting off the interior of Africa. Queen Victoria's proposal to appoint the Duchess of Wellington as her Mistress of the Robes, on the resignation of the Duchess of Sutherland. Mr Carwithen's appointment to the Living of Stokenham and Mr Carey's appointment as Vicar of Brixham, approved by Her Majesty.
